Prekursorem polskiej sztuki gejowskiej jest artysta performer Krzysztof Jung (1951-1998) związany w latach 70. z kontrkulturową warszawską galerią Repassage . W performansach Junga, których świadectwem są fotografie, widać fascynacje nagością ciała, w szczególności męskiego ciała traktowanego w sposób estetyczny. W wizualności PRL-u męskie ciało było deformowane i zasłaniane, a dzięki Krzysztofowi Jungowi piękno męskiego ciała przetrwało w purytańskim socjalizmie. W performansach artysty pojawiał się temat dialogu partnerskiego pomiędzy dwoma mężczyznami, refleksja o związku między nimi, jak również wydostawanie się z pętających i represyjnych więzów. Akcje artysty, w których sam brał udział, były formą seksualnej kontrkultury w PRL-u. Już w sztuce Junga widać cechy charakterystyczne dla sztuki gejowskiej: dominację aktu męskiego, erotyczne spojrzenie na męskie ciało i relacje intymne pomiędzy mężczyznami, narcystyczny autoportret oraz problematyką społeczną związaną z represją.

Krzysztof Jung (1951-1998) stands as precursor of Polish gay art. In the 1970s, Jung was affiliated with the Warsaw counter-cultural gallery Repassage. His performances, recorded in photographs, reveal fascination with the nude body, especially the male body as an aesthetic object. The visual conventions of the People’s Republic of Poland distorted and veiled the male body. Krzysztof Jung preserved the beauty of the male body in puritanical Socialism. His performances raised the issue of dialogue between two male partners, reflected on their mutual relations, and freed them from oppressive bounds. Jung’s performances were a form of sexual counterculture in the old system. His art has certain traits typical of gay art: predominance of the male nude, an erotic gaze cast at the male body and intimate relations between men, narcissistic self-portrait, and social oppression.
